Malaysia e-Visa Information

The Malaysia e-Visa is an electronic visa that is available entirely online and allows its holders to stay in Malaysia for 30 days.

The electronic visa system was launched in Malaysia in 2016 to help foreign travelers obtain the necessary visas quickly and easily.

The Malaysia e-Visa is a single-entry online visa that remains valid for 90 days (three months) from the date of issue and allows all eligible travelers to make short-term tourist visits to Malaysia.  

In order to apply for the Malaysia visa online, applicants must have a valid passport from one of the eligible countries and a credit or debit card to pay the fees. Applications are processed quickly (usually within one business day) and the vast majority are approved.

Travelers can enter Malaysia through any port of entry by presenting a printed A4 copy of their approved e-Visa along with their passport, proof of sufficient funds, return ticket and proof of accommodation. It is important that you use the same passport for the online form and for entry into Malaysia.

A large number of foreign nationals wishing to visit Malaysia require a visa to enter the country. There are currently different types of visas for travel to Malaysia. The type of visa a person needs to travel to Malaysia depends on their nationality and the purpose of their trip. All foreign visitors are required to have a passport with a minimum validity of six months upon arrival at a port of entry.

Malaysia offers a single-entry visa to foreign nationals wishing to enter the country for the purpose of social visit (tourism). As the name suggests, the Malaysia Single Entry Visa grants its holder only one entry into the country.

The Malaysia single-entry visa is valid for up to three months from the date of issue.

The Malaysia multiple-entry visa is issued to foreign nationals who need to enter the country for commercial or intergovernmental reasons. Once approved, it is valid for a period of three to twelve months from the date of issue.

Indian and Chinese citizens wishing to visit Malaysia for the purpose of social visit (tourism) are also eligible to obtain the Malaysia multiple-entry visa. When entering Malaysia with this type of visa, the holder is granted a stay of up to 30 days. It is important to note that the stay cannot be extended.

The Government of Malaysia has launched eNTRI, the Electronic Travel Information and Registration System, for citizens of India and the People's Republic of China. The eNTRI is an Electronic Travel Authorization that allows its holder to stay in Malaysia for 15 days. Indian and Chinese travelers should note that the eNTRI visa waiver is for single entry only.

Applying for the Malaysia eNTRI visa is a simple process. The eNTRI can be easily completed online, applicants need to provide some important personal and passport information. Most eNTRI requests are processed and approved within 1 business day. The visa is valid for 3 months from the date of issue.

Once an eNTRI Visa has been used, the holder must wait up to 3 months before applying for a new eNTRI Visa. This type of visa for Malaysia cannot be extended.

Check if your country is listed as eligible. Citizens of the following countries may submit an online application for the Malaysia e-Visa:

• Select the purpose of your trip using the box on the left and click the Apply Online button. Start by filling out the application form with the required details such as first and last name, email address, passport and dates of travel.
• Claim the fee and check if you received a confirmation number in your email inbox immediately after registering your payment. Candidates can choose from several online payment methods available on our website.
• Check your inbox. The Malaysia e-Visa will be sent to your email inbox in 3 business days or less. After approval, the document is sent to the applicant in PDF form.

The e-Visa allows Indian nationals to stay in Malaysia for up to 30 days. It is a single entry visa that permits a citizen of India to enter Malaysia once during its 3-month period of validity.

However, if the traveler does not leave the airport, he is not required to obtain the transit visa. the Malaysia transit visa is only required if the individual is leaving the airport and staying in Malaysia for a short period of time.

As some countries do not enjoy visa-free entry into Malaysia, a free transit pass can be purchased for stays of up to 120 hours when transiting Kuala Lumpur International Airport.

If you have Indian nationality and wish to apply for a visa prior to traveling to Malaysia, it is crucial that you read through the requirements for Indian citizens traveling to Malaysia.

In order to apply for the Malaysia visa, travelers require:

• A recent passport-sized photo (check requirements)
• A blank passport front page (see example)
• The last page of an Indian passport
• A confirmed return flight booking
• Birth certificate (for applicant minors only)
• Proof of accommodation

Will be asked to provide the following documentation at the border:

• eNTRI or e-visa
• Confirmed return flight reservation
• Boarding pass
• Sufficient funds (debit/credit card, cash, traveler’s cheque, etc.)
• Travel itinerary
